Each month, Iron Physical Therapy highlights a special patient to tell their inspiring story. We want to honor the people who go all in - body, mind and spirit. They show us what’s possible - that you can move on from a setback to do amazing things...to challenge your body, to chase your dreams, to address pain in a healthy way to #getbetterbebetter. Meet Genelle aka "G" or "G-fresh"! I've known G for a number of years now through a local CrossFit gym we belonged to. During that time I witnessed her strong discipline and work ethic at the gym, so I knew her dedication to the knee rehab process would be unmatched.

Not only is she a power lifting machine, but she's one of the most encouraging, positive and charismatic patients I've ever had! She's even inspired me to "Get Better. Be Better." in several areas of my own life! This is not surprising given the fact that she's a social worker and psychotherapist who's changing the lives of inner city youth in Newark. Big things are happening from this special person!

In Genelle’s Own Words…

1) List Three Words to Describe You:

Determined. Non-judgmental. Curious.

2)  What Brought You Into Physical Therapy?

My knee was really not cooperating with my movement plans!!!! The back of my knee was really sending me some messages that I wasn’t taking care of it.

3) How would you describe physical therapy?

Think about physical therapy as the psychotherapy of body problems.  As a patient, you are expected to work hard and to surrender to what your body needs. #GetbetterBebetter

4)  What exercise or technique helped you most?

Those little ankle weights will sneak up on you and single leg squats, but all the single leg work was helpful.

5)  What would you say to someone who is living in pain and putting off physical therapy?

Why?!! You can actually be pain free and simultaneously learn skills that you can incorporate into your movement routines.

6) What are you excited to get back to after physical therapy?

Hahahah RUNNING?!

6) What did you enjoy most about the physical therapy experience?

Everyone at Iron PT is an actual gem! It feels like you are just checking in with those family members that love you but hold you accountable.
