NYC Marathon Training: Let the Games Begin!
In the spirit of the summer Olympics, let the games begin!! With 18 weeks left until the NYC Marathon, it’s time to get focused on my training. Although I’ve run a number of half-marathons, I’ve only run one full and that was seven years ago in Atlanta. Since then, I’ve started a business, had two kids, and found my way into my mid-30s. Needless to say, I have a little more to juggle, so I’m anxious to get started.
As a physical therapist, I educate patients every day about sport specific training and injury prevention, so I thought it would be interesting to track my journey to the NYC finish line! I’ll be posting daily training summaries on our Iron Physical Therapy Facebook page (like us!) and weekly blog updates on my mental and physical preparation for the marathon.
Just like any big goal in life, you've got to start with a plan. I'll be following the The Official NYRR ING New York City Marathon Training Program (the moderate plan) to map out my mileage and intensity for the days and weeks to come. In addition, I'll be focusing heavily on injury prevention through strength training and flexibility as well as nutrition and time management. I'll be logging my workouts on Facebook as IRON PT WOD (work out of the day). My handy Timex GPS marathon trainer watch will help me with logging my info.
I'm looking forward to this journey and sharing my experience with all of you will help keep me focused and determined!
Happy Training!
