Avoid Lower Back Pain While Gardening
Warm weather has finally arrived and I know a lot of you are spending time outside in your gardens planting your flowers and vegetables. In this video, I discuss a few simple ways that you can avoid back pain while gardening to keep your body healthy and moving all summer long.
How to Avoid Back Pain While Gardening:
Be sure to shovel with form to avoid lower back pain and neck pain after a long day in the garden. To do this, tighten your core and have a firm body position to push the shovel in the ground vertically and push straight down with your foot into the soil. Then, bending from you knees and keeping your core tight, lift the dirt up to move it and repeat!
Avoid bending over while standing or kneeling for a long period of time while planting to avoid back pain. A safer position for this to sit with yours knee bent in front of the spot you’re planting in, keep your posture up tall, and hinge your hips to reach the hole.
