Crossfit Patient Looks Forward to Burpees after Physical Therapy
Meet Chris! He's a local elementary school principal and life long athlete! Despite having had knee surgery that brought his active lifestyle to a temporary halt, he's remained positive and enthusiastic about his recovery. If you just happen to be in the clinic while he's there, you'll get to enjoy the jokes and competitive banter that's flying around. Always a fun rehab session!
~ Dr. Geno Mayes, DPT
IN HIS WORDS...
1) List three words to describe you: "Work in Progress"
2) What brought you into physical therapy? My bum knee! And... with the single focus of getting back to pain free movement and functioning.
3) How would you describe physical therapy to people who don't know what it is? Physical Therapy is not necessarily something you want but 100% what you need. Injuries and pain can be pysically and mentally debilitating. PT conquers both.
4) What exercise or technique helped you the most? Hard to pinpoint one but Graston was new and unique certainly to me. I LOVED the Normatec boots as well.
5) What would you say to someone who is living in pain and putting off physical therapy? Instead of waiting or wishing for the pain to simply disappear, you have the opportunity to rid yourself of it for good. We always have a tendency to avoid things or put things off. I felt better 2 weeks after surgery than I did for 2 years leading up to it. PT was a huge part of that. The IRON slogan says it all - Get Better, Be Better!
6) What activities are you most excited about getting back to? When you are active and things are taken from you it is frustrating. You grow to appreciate them more even if they suck. When Doc cleared me for burpees, I was so excited. So getting back to all Crossfit movements and basketball is what I look forward to the most...and of course Blacksmithing and Tenkara Fly Fishing.
7) What did you enjoy most about your PT experience? The whole package that is IRON. It is the most professional PT environment I have ever stepped foot in. The space is spotless and organized. The front desk staff are beyond knowledgeable and polite. The interns are great. I had a chance to work with all 3 doctors and each of them are amazing. They are connected to you as athletes because they are athletes themselves.
